The story of Empress Dowager Cixi and Hetian Yu

Among the many strange stones displayed in the new museum of the China Geological Museum, there is a large stone that is not eye-catching. It is the famous "Ci Xi He Tian Yu". As early as the China Geological Museum is also located in the mutton Hu, "Ci Xi He Tian Yu" stands tall at the entrance of the gate, becoming the unique "town treasure" of the Geological Museum.

慈禧太后与和田玉的故事

"Ci Xi He Tian Yu" material is Hetian Qingyu. Hetian Qingyu has a higher hardness in Hetian jade. The jade is delicate and warm, the jade is deep and pure, and the overall appearance is strong, which means that the foundation is always green. It has been the main material of the country since ancient times. Among the Qing dynasty Fang Baoji, which represents the imperial power of the Qing Dynasty, 13 of them are jade and jade, so Hetian Qingyu is a veritable “Jade of the Emperor”. Hetian Qingyu is not only loved by emperors of all ages, but even the "Queen of the Empress Dowager", who has ruled the Qing Dynasty for nearly 47 years, also regards it as a love. It is said that Cixi's love for Hetian Qingyu has reached a level of madness.

慈禧太后与和田玉的故事

Cixi decreed to find coffin

The Empress Dowager Cixi suffered from internal and external troubles for the rest of her life and was forced to leave the capital twice to escape from her hometown. In 1905, she managed to live through the 70th birthday and knew that there was not much time. Just like the thoughts of the emperor of the ages, I was planning to find a big jade that I could live forever after ten thousand years. Perhaps because of the green jade of Myanmar, Cixi also liked the Hetian Qingyu produced in Xinjiang. Therefore, the task of seeking jade fell to the head of the Xinjiang bureaucrats. However, the grain heads in the Yulong Kashi River in the Hetian area are usually small and cannot meet the requirements of the hoe making, so they can only be found on the Kunlun Mountains where jade is produced.

Coincidence with "Super Big Mac"

It takes a very large piece of jade material to make a complete jade. Even in the Kunlun Mountains, which is known as the “mountain jade mountain”, it is not easy to find a jade material that meets the requirements. Fortunately, the craftsmen broke through the iron shoes and finally found such a huge Hetian jade mountain material. It is about three meters long, about two meters wide, about one meter thick, and has a weight of twenty tons. As is known to all, Qianlong and Tian Qingyu's "Dayu Water Control Map" is the "big Mac" in Chinese ancient jade, only about five tons. In the same year, it took at least three years for the jade to transport such a piece of jade from the Hetian Mila Mountain in Xinjiang to Beijing.

It is difficult to transport the sky

According to a poem written in the Qing Dynasty entitled "Yuyuxing": To transport this piece of jade, it is necessary to use a special car with a shaft length of 11 meters. There are more than one hundred horse-drawn carriages in front, and there are thousands of servants in the back. Pushing it, in the winter, when the water is poured into an ice channel, it can only be transported seven or eight miles a day. So, what is the price for transporting this twenty-tonne jade? In the era when there were no mechanical tools, no road traffic, and transportation was extremely inconvenient, the craftsmen had to transport this giant from the mountains to the mountains and then to the capital. It was really difficult to go to the sky.

Due to the lack of historical materials, not only the transportation situation is unknown, but also the specific origin of Dayu is unknown. According to the historical records of Xinjiang Hetian jade, we can speculate that the possible origin of Cixi and Tianyu is the Miershan Mountain in the West Kunlun Mountains, which is the same area as the Dagu Water Control Map.

Jade has not gone to the capital Cixi

Unexpectedly, when the jade material cost a lot of money to be tossed down the mountain, and it was hard to transport to Kuqa County in Xinjiang thousands of miles away, the sudden loss came from the capital - Empress Dowager Cixi in 1908 On November 15th, at the Zhongyi Temple in Zhonghai, it was broken! The funeral was close at hand, and the "far water" of Yuxi could not solve the "near thirst", and the Yuxi project had to be done.

Yugong liberation

Cixi’s death, this is a great news for the Yunyu workers. The hardships of finding jade and carrying them make them hate the extravagant and extravagant old woman. Out of the insane anger and the hatred of the departure, Yun Yun workers vented their anger on this big jade, and even the ghost made the big jade smashed! We know that the toughness of nephrite is the higher of natural natural materials (except black diamond), and it is tough to the point of invincibility in the world. This can be broken by a few hammers. It is estimated that the reason why Dayu was smashed may be that this Hetian jade, which weighs 20 tons, has developed several big scorpions (cracks), but it is not the strength of Yunyu workers. In any case, the jade project was terminated anyway, and the jade was smashed on the spot. It is conceivable that those small, medium-sized jade materials were removed by the people or thrown into the river. Only two pieces of untouched jade were left.

The central government approved the "Ci Xi He Tian Yu" as a cultural relic

These two remaining jade materials have gone through the fall of the Qing government, the war of the Republic of China and the founding of the People's Republic of China. They have been moved to the county party committee compound by the Kuche County Government for half a century, and they have been protected as cultural relics. In 1965, through the consultation of Mr. Hu Chengzhi from the China Geological Museum, the Kuche County Government of Xinjiang presented the larger piece as a gift to the China Geological Museum and became the “treasure of the town hall” here. The other piece was slightly smaller and was donated to the Xinjiang Bureau of Geology and Minerals.
