Hong Kong's exports of manufactured fabrics decreased by 2.3 billion yuan in January, down 31.5%

Statistics on external merchandise trade published by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department showed that Hong Kong’s total exports and imports recorded a significant year-on-year decline in January 2012, falling by 8.6% and 10.5% respectively.

After recording a year-on-year increase of 7.4% in December 2011, the total value of total exports of goods re-exported to Hong Kong products in January 2012 was RMB 259.3 billion (HK$, the same below), down 8.6 from the same month in 2011. %. In January, the value of re-exports decreased by 7.9% to 255.6 billion yuan, while the value of domestic exports fell to 3.7 billion yuan, a decrease of 39.7%.

At the same time, following a year-on-year increase of 8.1% in December 2011, the value of imports of goods in January 2012 was RMB 268.2 billion, a decrease of 10.5% from the same month of the previous year.

Comparing January 2012 with the same month of 2011, the value of some major overall export product categories recorded a decrease, in particular, “Electric Machinery, Apparatus and Appliances and Parts” (minus $6.9 billion, down 9.3%), “Office Machines and Automatic data processing equipment (minus $3.3 billion, down 9.3%) and "spinning, fabrics, finished goods and related products" (by $2.3 billion, down 31.5%).

Over the same period, the value of some major categories of imported goods also recorded a decrease, in particular, “electrical machinery, apparatus and equipment and parts” (minus 18.3 billion yuan, down 22.8%), and “clothing and clothing accessories” (minus 2.4 billion yuan, Fell 17.3%) and “spinning, fabrics, manufactured goods and related products” (by 2.3 billion yuan, down 34.9%).
